K-Drama Filming Locations in South Korea

There’s something magical about standing in a place you’ve only ever seen on screen: the quiet pause before a confession, the soft footsteps during a breakup, the kind of scenery that makes everything feel cinematic. I've been an avid fan of Korean dramas ever since it became a hit in the Philippines for as long as I can remember. I think the first ever K-drama I've watched was Full House and Save the Last Dance for Me. I was in elementary school those years and looking back, it was such a dream to be in the same places the actors have been to. Fast forward to when I was able to understand Korean dramas, I still feel the same feeling of excitement especially that remembering the scenes felt so iconic that my K-Drama heart screams for joy!

On my recent trip to South Korea, I realized I wasn’t just sightseeing. I was accidentally walking through some of the most iconic K-drama filming locations.

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like the main character in your own K-drama, here are the beautiful places you can actually visit, plus the dramas you’ve probably seen them in.

Gyeongbokgung Palace
If you’ve ever watched a sageuk (historical drama), chances are you’ve already seen this palace. It also feels surreal when you're wearing a hanbok! I rented my hanbok, mini bag, and styled my hair from Daehan Hanbok.

How to go to Gyeongbokgung Palace:

  • From Seoul Station, take Line 3 (Orange Line)
  • Get off at Gyeongbokgung Station (Exit 5)

  • Deoksugung Stonewall Walkway

It’s beautiful, emotional, and yes, locals joke that couples who walk here break up.

How to go to Deoksugung Stonewall Walkway

  • From Seoul Station, take Line 1 or 4
  • Get off at City Hall Station (Exit 2)

  •

    Suwon Hwaesong Fortress (Paldamun Gate)
Located just outside the city, Suwon is packed with filming locations that many tourists overlook. It’s quieter, more scenic, and honestly feels like your own private drama set.

  • From Seoul Station, take Line 1 or ITX train to Suwon Station
  • From Suwon Station:
    • Take a bus (11, 13, 36)

  • Cheonggyecheon Stream

This is where characters go when they need to think, heal, or say something important.

How to go to Cheonggyecheon Stream:

  • From Seoul Station, take Line 1 or 4
  • Get off at City Hall / Jonggak Station

  • Noksapyeong Bridge - Itaewon

You can’t talk about Itaewon without thinking of Itaewon Class. This area feels alive at night, perfect for that “chasing your dreams” storyline.

How to go to Noksapyeong Bridge:

  • From Seoul Station, take Line 4 → transfer to Line 6
  • Get off at Itaewon Station

  • Starfield Library in Gangnam

Gangnam represents the sleek, fast-paced side of Korea. The COEX Starfield Library, in particular, is a must-visit for its dreamy, aesthetic interior.

How to go to Starfield Library in Gangnam:

  • From Seoul Station, take Line 4 → transfer to Line 2
  • Get off at Gangnam Station, walk to Starfield COEX Mall
  • Nami Island

If there’s one place that defines K-drama romance, it’s this. It was made famous by Winter Sonata.

How to go to Nami Island:

  • From Seoul Station, go to Yongsan Station (Line 1, 1 stop)
  • Take ITX-Cheongchun to Gapyeong Station
  • Usually boards from Platform 1
  •  Make sure you are riding an ITX train
  • From Gapyeong:
    • Taxi or bus → ferry terminal → ferry to Nami Island
    • We took a zipline going to the island for this trip

  • Gwanghwamun Square

This wide, iconic square in the heart of Seoul has been featured in several modern dramas, including The King: Eternal Monarch.

With Gyeongbokgung Palace right behind it, the contrast of tradition and modern life makes it feel like you’ve stepped into a parallel universe.

How to go to Gwanghwamun Square:

  • From Seoul Station, take Line 5 (Purple Line)
  • Get off at Gwanghwamun Station (Exit 9)

  • Dongdaemun Design Plaza

This architectural landmark has appeared in My Love from the Star, Vincenzo, and many others. It’s especially beautiful at night when everything lights up.

How to go to Dongdaemun Design Plaza:

  • From Seoul Station, take Line 4
  • Get off at Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station

  • If you're planning to visit the above filming locations, you can group your itinerary like this:

    • Gyeongbokgung
    • Cheonggyecheon

Being in these places made me feel like my main character energy. It's been a month since my Korea trip and everything still feels like a dream. I'll definitely add more locations when I go back to Korea.
